Service: Learning Outcome 5, Post Oak Garage Sale
October, 24, 2020
For my NHS project this year I worked with the administration to organize the first Post Oak Pre-Owned Sale. Recycled fashion has always been a passion of mine, so I was super excited to be able to work with my group to create such an awesome event! The first thing I did was to organize the student volunteers and make teams to watch each section at the garage sale. The night of the event I went with that student team to help sort through old clothing and items that had been donated and price and tag everything. People had ended up donating A LOT so there were mountains of items to sort through. It ended up being a lot of fun- we played music and ate donuts and I felt very accomplished at the end of the night. That morning we got to the school really early before the sun had even risen, and it was really cold. But there was a sense of community as we brought everything out and organized all the items into sections. Everything looked amazing when it was all set up, and when we opened to the public there were a ton of people that came in! We were there all day, and we sold a ton.
It was amazing to be able to work with the administration and students to organize this project, and I was really happy with the end result. It definitely would not have been possible without the help from everyone and all the participation.
