Service: Learning Outcome 6, The Houston Freeze

This week was a really challenging week. The freeze in Houston put our lives on hold, stopped school, stopped our water and electricity flow, and for some destroyed the pipes in our houses. I was really lucky that our electricity stayed on the entire time, and my dad was able to fix our busted pipes to get our water back on. During this time I felt it was really important that I help people that didn't have heat. For two nights my friend Emily stayed over. It was good to have someone there to hunker down with, reading books and huddling down in the blankets during the freeze.

This experience made me think about how the electrical grid and climate change interact, and how important it is for us to be combating climate change. Weather events like this will become more normal, and we will be feeling the effects of events like these for years to come.
